This one is quite good. I served 24 of them at a party once, along two 12-packs of Pepsi. These were gone at the end, but I had several Pepsi’s left over.
Take that, PepsiCo.

I obtained this beverage while running through DFW airport on the way to see the NC State vs. Texas football game in August of 1999. It proved to be a good luck charm; our Wolfpack walked all over the heavily-favored Longhorns that evening.
(Even though Mack Brown’s no longer at Carolina, it still rocks to see him lose!)

This beverage is no longer available. That’s too bad, because it tasted pretty good. Plus, you could buy a pallet at a time!
In the spring of 1998, I hosted a party for the trombone section of the NC State Marching Band. I bought a couple cases of Dr. Up, and a couple of cases of Pepsi. At the end of the party, all the Dr. Up were gone, but I still had about half of the Pepsis. Go figure.

My mother’s-mother’s family has had a couple reunions in a city in the southeastern corner of Kentucky. I picked up this specimen en route to just such a reunion in July of 1999.
This little gem came from a drink machine outside the store itself.

Commentary:
Phar-Mor went a different route in their naming of this particular drink. Though it’s clearly a ripoff of Dr. Pepper, they pulled a name from way out in left field somewhere.
Exactly what part about a “black cherry” soda reminds you of Texas, anyway? One has to wonder.

This just proves the old adage, “polar bears wearing sunglasses love to drink fake Dr. Pepper”.
