Great stuff. Doing this now on my 350Z. I did find this cable, though:

<a href='http://www.datapro.net/products/panel-mount-3-5mm-f-to-rcax2.html' rel="nofollow">http://www.datapro.net/products/panel-mount-3-5mm-f-to-rcax2.html</a>

Ordered it and should make life easy for me. The only drawback is that the molding on the back of the panel mount will limit where I mount it, but I should be able to find a spot without too much trouble. Less connections for interference and no soldering!

SUBJECT: Great Install, but Read this!
Hi Jason, Great install job. (a sweet & clean install of everything). However, there's one important item you need to add to your arsenal. It's an iPod line-out adapter. When the signal comes out your iPod’s headphone jack it’s already been preamped (that's why it's able to power up your headphones). By running it out the headphone jack (and then) into your head unit’s aux input, you are effectively double-preamping your signal (unless the unit’s specially made to compensate for this, which I highly doubt).
When you run the signal out of a dock to line-out adapter, you can no longer control the volume on the iPod itself (except for the headphones which will still work if connected, but why?). The signal will be set to a perfect -10dbv (studio talk), which is a true line-out. When you take the signal from a genuine line out and plug it in to your system, you'll hear an immediate difference. It even makes the crappy cassette head unit (in one of my cars) sound great, and that's using one of those silly cassette to 1/8" miniplug adapters. However, the car does have decent speakers.
These adapters are hard to find in stores. I live in a big city, but I could still only find one brand, at a Mac/Apple specialty store. But Apple stores themselves don't carry any of the them. However, the best deal I could find is online. It's a product called the Sendstation Pocketdock. It only costs 30 bucks and it gives you a line-out, a USB (B-type) connectivity), and a S-Video out. It even comes with the cables (which adapt from S-Video to composite for TV’s with only RCA inputs). It also plugs in and works right through most iPod cases. It's basically looks like a little extension sticking out of your iPod. And not only is the sound a hundred times better, the picture quality for your iPod will actually look good on your TV (for once). This holds true even when using the RCA jacks (way better picture than those 3-ringed, rip-off Apple (headphone jack) video cables).
In fact, this setup will sound better than anything using a headphone jack. And if you work in an office that allows you to play music at your desk, just plug the 1/8" jack from any decent PC speakers into the Pocketdock, and the sound will come to life much more than they ever did using a headphone out. If you want to hear the difference (in sound quality) before purchasing one of these units, just plug your PC speakers into your computers headphone output, listen to it, then plug them back into the line out and listen to it. I know it's not your cars system, but it's the best (and easiest) way to experience this vast difference in sound quality.
I'm not a salesman, so I won't give the direct link to it (just look it up). But believe me, this little gadget is awesome. Not only for your car, but for your home & office as well!
Sincerely, Tom

So far the best tutorial. And thanks for labeling the mini jac, pin configuration on the back definitely is no help.
